Climb upon my faithful steed...
Halarious, rockin', awe inspiring. Alot of people think Tenacious D are sort of a joke because of Jack Black where in all actuality they are tallented musicians. The songwriting team of Jack Black and Kyle Gass is exelent. Try to listen to this and not have a huge smile on your face. I hope they record a new album soon and go on tour. I'll be there if they do.

Lucifer's Friend was a b-rate hard rock/metal band from Germany who formed in 1970. Thier sound is alot similar to Deep Purple. The band had a big cult following and they more than likely had an influence on bands like Pentagram who had an influence on some of todays heavier bands. Theres a prog element to what they do and lots of keyboards.
Street Walkin'...
Before he sang in Black Sabbath and his solo band, Ronnie James Dio sang for Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple fame's side band Rainbow. I guess the name can be construed as kinda gay, but theres nothing gay going on here. Instead what you get is some bluesy awesome hard rock which definately helped lay down the foundation for the power metal genre.
Kyrie eleison...
These fellas blend the best parts of bands like Iron Maiden with bands like Rush. Theres deffinately a progressive element here but the riffs are heavy and the singer can do a dead on Bruce Dickinson impression when he wants to. I think they formed in New Haven, Connecticut back in the 80s, but I'm not sure.
You're just losin' your mind...
Before he formed Black Label Society but while he was in Ozzy's band, Zakk Wyle formed Pride And Glory. In a way it was like an early incarnation of Black Label Society but the music was alot more in the vein of southen rock than metal. The songs have alot of twang and he even brings a banjo into the fold for a couple songs.
Sing me a song, you're a singer...
If you ask me, the albums Black Sabbath made with Dio were just as good as thier early ones. Of course Ronnie James Dio had a completely different vocal approach than Ozzy and Iommi took some of the music in a decidedly different melodic kind of metal direction but it was still blantantly Sabbath. I think The Dio Years compilation has a good selection of Dio era Black Sabbath songs, plus it has three new songs at the end that sound great too.

In fear of the river...
Vision Of Disorder plays hardcore but with an all original twist that I can't even really explain. Frontman Tim Williams sings as well as screams. The guitars are loud and metallic and the rythym section is tight. Later on Vision Of Disorder got a little more experimental but this is probably them at thier pissed off best.
Anthrax, ham radio, and liquor...
Heres the latest cd from Clutch, it's apperant that they get blusier and more laid back with every release but it still rocks like a bastard. Clutch can do no wrong.

Blind was a turning point for C.O.C. Founding member and bass player Mike Dean left (he would later come back), and newcomer Pepper Keenan was brought into the fold on second guitar. Original guitarist Woody Weatherman also recruited a new singer and new bass player for this version of the band. This album found them straying from thier Black Flag influenced hardcore roots and going in more of a thrash/metal direction. But with Pepper Keenan on board and his show stealing vocal spot on the song Vote With A Bullet it was evident he was the right man for the job.
Mangled by mongoloids...
Fear is the key...
Grand Magus is from Sweeden and plays an old school flavored brand of metal influenced by bands like Rainbow and Riot. The subject matter in the songs is pretty cool heavy metal fare too, sourcerers, vikings, sailing ships, wolves, etc.

WASP was way better than your average 1980's LA glam mongers. Case in point, you would never see cod peices that shot flames or had a circular saw blade coming out of them at a Poison show. And the songs on here? Not too shabby either. The artwork? You got me there, it's like some sort of political statement gone wrong but its still a good record.

Manic frontman of the band Acid Bath Dax Riggs started this band sometime around 1999 and they put out one album before the members went thier seperate ways. Dax Riggs eventually went on to form the much poppier Deadboy And The Elephantmen. But what we have here is gothy, bluesy, sometimes acoustic, sometimes rockin' and really interesting. Almost like a stripped down, more personal version of Acid Bath in a way.
We've grown into a monster...
I don't feel Tardy...give me something to write on, man!
Thats right, the same Tardy Brothers from Florida death metal juggernauts Obituary. In this side project they take a decidedly different approach and give the guitars more room to breathe and the result is pretty awesome. This is not death metal but its still brutal, youll want to bang your head nonetheless. Not sure whos playing the lead guitar on here but he knows what hes doing.

100th post...
So I didn't do anything special for my 100th post. But listen to some awesome hardcore by a band named after one of the most badass video game characters of all time. Subzero takes the best parts of classic 80's hardcore and thrash and makes something completely new and fresh. Unfortunately they are another awesome band who broke up.
I started this blog early last week and I'm at 100 posts already. I couldn't have done it if i wasnt currently unemplyed, but thats a story for another time. I really enjoy posting in here and updating this blog though, and I hope some of you out there like checking it out as much as I enjoy making the posts.
I feel the water rush, I feel the moon rise...
This is what southern rock sounds like nowadays. Or did at least, because, unfortunately, they broke up. The members went thier seperate ways and formed into Red River Revival and Black Pyramid but if you ask me neither one of those are quite as good as this band was. Think hard southern rock with a Brian Johnson style screamer on vocals, a loud, bass heavy low end, and awesome heavy riffs that recall the heavier moments of Kyuss and the best of bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Yeah motherfucker, let's take a ride...
Lamb Of God - Wrath (2009)
It took me a while to come around to this band. I didn't like them at first, just didnt catch my ear, but in my opinion they have imrpoved over thier last few cds or maybe I just got it finally. I don't know but I eventually went back and listened to some of thier earlier works and I was able to apreciate them more too.
Eat the after and satiate the claw...
I'd listen to anything Philip H. Anselmo puts out. Mainly because every project he is involved with is pure quality. In Superjoint Ritual he took the best elements of old school hardcore and the groove metal that made him famous and blended them together and the result was feirce and angry as hell. He also found an all star kick ass band to back him for this project including Jimmy Bower, Hank III and Joe Fazzio.
Cops just jealous cause we get more pussy than they do...
This is one of the more disturbing movies i've seen. It barely has a plot, but it has some cool selling points. Heavy metal soundtrack? Check. Chloë Sevigny topless? Check. Rednecks wrestling a kitchen chair? Check. Kids killing cats and then selling them to a guy who sells them to a chineese restaraunt? Check. Gay black midget? Check. Deaf couple arguing with each other? Check. Five year olds swearing like a motherfucker? Check.

Crown Royal whiskey and Yuengling beer...
This is just good old fashioned hard rock. It will make you want to get drunk and do immoral things. Not surprisingly it rocks like a bastard. Viking Skull started as a for fun side project of a couple members of the band Raging Speedhorn and thier guitar tech and slowly morphed into the force that they are today. They even broke up at one point but got back together with a couple new members and released this sonofabitch.
See the blind man, shooting at the world...
All guitarist Ritchie Blackmore really gets recognized for is being the Smoke On The Water guy. Well hes done alot more great songs in his career than just that overplayed calssic rock radio hit. In Rock has some awesome virtostic guitar playing from Blackmore and the whole band is on the top of thier game here. My favorite songs are Child In Time and Bloodsucker.

Why the hell not...
Why not post some movies on here too? This movie is fucked up, disturbing and awesome. It's about crystal metah addicts. And while drug addiction is a serious problem, the words crystal and meth make me laugh my ass off, it makes people act so rediculous. This movie makes you feel like you are right there with them doing meth, it's actually kinda tough to watch but so entertaining that you'll wanna keep watching.

They don't make them like this anymore...
The early 90s was a great time for extreme metal. To this day this cd is one of the heaviest and most well executed albums I've ever heard. Roadrunner Records used to have an amazing roster of metal bands, what the hell happened? Anyway, the outro from Davidian is still enough to send chills down my spine, simple but heavy and EVIL. Why don't metal bands this good spring up as often as they did in the early 90s?
This just in...
