Posessed was essentially a thrash metal band but they took a little more extreme approach and the songs contained a little bit darker subject matter. The last song on Seven Churches is called Death Metal. They pretty much invented death metal right then and there much like how Venom invented black metal with the song Black Metal. The songs on Seven Churches are mean and dirty sounding and the riffs are lightning fast.

The origins of death metal...
